The Carrion Crown
Pathfinder?! Why not just use 3.5?
Pathfinder is (for lack of a better term) Dungeons and Dragons 3.75. They streamlined the combat maneuver part of the game, made single class characters more relevant by providing more class features, added faster feat progression and put their own spin on things with such moves as allowing Sorcerers to choose their own arcane heritage – each with its own bonuses to name just a few of their many enhancements to the OGL system.
The strength is that many players are familiar with Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Edition and it won’t take much time for people to come up to speed.
It is also actively supported – unlike 3.5. The quality of the writing and rules coming out of Paizo is better to what I felt was delivered by Wizards of the Coast and they are coming out with some very good stuff at the moment – for example… The Carrion Crown Adventure Path.
If you don’t wish to acquire the ruleset on your own there are links here to both the Pathfinder SRD as well as the Paizo’s Pathfinder Page for you to either reference the rules or to learn more about Pathfinder as a game system. That said the PDFs for the core rules are VERY reasonably priced.
As much as it is similar to 3.5, we will be sticking to the Pathfinder materials for Feats, Classes and so forth. The books in use will be the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Pathfinder Advanced Players Guide, Pathfinder Ultimate Magic Book and (when it comes out), Pathfinder Ultimate Combat Book, though anything beyond the Core rules is subject to GM Approval. I will also allow feats and traits (sort of like ‘Half Feats’ for Character backgrounds) from the Pathfinder Companion Books if you feel you want some additional options for your characters.
You can find everything you need on the Pathfinder SRD rather than suffering information overload.
Take some time to familiarise yourself with the House Rules at some point… the big one is that I will be using a variant where character progression stops at 7th level – sounds strange but hear me out…
